The Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution

‘Pardon me, of what “well regulated Militia” are you a part?’

It is so interesting how those self-anointed defenders of the “constitutional right” to own weapons assert the ownership part of that article, ignoring entirely the beginning part. Because, make no mistake about it, the beginning of the single sentence of its text clearly makes such possession contingent on that first part.

For general recollection, edification and correction of obvious partisan ignorance, here is the exact wording of the item:  “Amendment II  A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

THEREFORE, EVERY TIME, AND THAT IS ABSOLUTELY EVERY TIME, YOU HEAR SOMEONE DECLARE HIS AMERICAN, CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO OWN WEAPONS, THE IMMEDIATE, REFLEXIVE RESPONSE SHOULD BE, “OH? AND WHAT ARE THE NAME  LEADERSHIP AND LOCATION OF THE “WELL REGULATED MILITIA” IN WHICH YOU SERVE?”

Beware those selective minders of the Constitution.
